Teaching Reading with Literature Chapter 5: Learning to make an Inference

Though this chapter was short it was full of information. I liked that it it explained all the different types of inferences. I guess I was never that interested in inferences to realized that there were text inferences and inferences based on what you already know. I liked the activity of "it says--I say" because it allows students to write down what the text says but to add what they think and then come up with an inference based on that. It gives them the opportunity to organize their thoughts which is always something I needed to do.

  1. I am the same way when it comes to organizing my thoughts. I have so much going on in my head that these tools are a great way to get everything down make become a thought a visual.

  2. I completely agree Angel, I never really thought about drawing inferences from text and I do believe it is an unique way to organize a reader's thoughts and also opinions on paper. It guides readers into being able to think in the abstract.
