Foot: I'm So Totally, Digitally Close to You

I thought this article was really interesting because I had never used Facebook before it had created the news feed. I do remember using MySpace, and it always took hours to see what friends were up to. You would have to find their picture and click on it, look around their page and it just always seemed like a lot of work. This is probably the reason why I preferred Facebook when I discovered it. You were able to see what all your friends were doing on a single page, you didn't have to search for anything, it was given to you.

The article said "It brings back the dynamics of small-town life, where everybody knows your business." When the news feed was first created, people were upset because they felt it was infringing on their privacy. This didn't make any sense to me because if you don't want anyone to know your business, you shouldn't have created a Facebook page to begin with. Everyone should know that what you post on the internet it available for hundreds of people, if not more, to see. I started to think about this when the article was talking about the website Loopt. The whole idea of this program scares me. I even went to the website and checked it out, and you can sign up and log the places that you're at, while you're there. I found it on my phone and downloaded it to see how it worked. It used my GPS feature and it showed me a list of places and asked me which one I was at. This might be fun if you have a group of friends who all use it, and you keep it as private as possible. Though, the likely hood that a teenager is going to do this is slim. My fears are that they link their Loopt with every other network they are apart of, and basically the whole world knows where they are at, at all times. This is a very dangerous idea, especially with all of the pedophiles and evil people that lurk around these kinds of websites. I vote 2 thumbs down!

I found this article about Online Check-ins and thought it was really interesting!
