What gets accomplished in my spare time...

I know that we are supposed to show evidence of "pleasure reading" and different things we might encounter in our spare time. I just have to say that I love reading and if I had "time" I would read the stack of 50 books I purchased over winter break. Some of these include "Hunger Games," "Wintergirls," "Speak," "Anne Frank : The Diary of a Young Girl," "Twenties Girl" by Sophie Kinsella, "Pure" by Terra McVoy, and "Dark Secrets" by Elizabeth Chandler.

What I have read for other classes I have enjoyed, these being "Jubilee" by Margaret Walker which I LOVED! It was a pretty thick book and it took me a while to finish, but I encourage those who haven't read it to pick it up sometime. It is a really great story about slavery times and the Civil War, told from the perspective of Margaret Walker's grandmother. I have reread "Black Boy" and "The Glass Menagerie," which I read in high school and enjoyed both then and now.

What takes up most of my "spare time" is church and many things that revolve around it. I am the worship leader and in charge of the music ministry. This means that I find all the music and teach it to everyone else on the worship team. We have practice every Wednesday and we are usually working on something new every week. Other than this I am also involved with the youth group and other events we take our youth to. This coming weekend is our annual UPCI Ohio Mid-Winter Youth Retreat. Every year it takes place at the Apostolic Church of Barberton. There are probably close to a thousand young people, if not more who come together for some CHURCH! There is a service on Friday night and then everyone goes to The University of Akron's Rec Center and has a good time until about 2 A.M. Once we get all the kids back to the hotel, they do the best they can to stay up the rest of the night while the chaperones catch a few hours of sleep before we head back for morning service. It's a fun weekend full of music, games, and always the powerful word of God. (This weekend is going to be a little difficult for our youth group because it would have been the birthday of my fiancĂ©, (2/5/91-3/31/10 R.I.P), and many of the youth were close to him.) But I know that they will prevail and get all they can out of this weekend. At Mid-Winter 2010 they honored a young girl in our organization who was also killed in a car accident in 2009, her name was Gabby, and I'm thinking they will do the same thing for Mikey...Here's a few video clips from previous Mid-Winters.....
