I found this chapter interesting because I am always interesting in helping people that say they "don't like to read," find the book that will change their minds. I think it is important to get to know our students so that we can help them find book that they will like, so that they can learn to love reading. I know I didn't like reading anything up until about 9th or 10th grade because I never found anything that interested me. The first "good" book I read in high school was probably The Bean Trees and it's still probably one of my favorite books.
I really like that this chapter gave details of all the different categories of fiction and non fiction literature. I also liked all of the suggestions. I really enjoyed every read aloud that was given this semester and they all made me want to read the book I was hearing. I think that students would enjoy the opportunity to hear part of a book before they read it, to make sure it's something they're interested in. I thought that the "good book" box story was awesome. I loved that the kids didn't know where to find these "good book." Then once they found the type of book they liked to read, the teacher was able to direct them to sections of the library that were similar. I think this would be a really great idea to implement in the classroom. I also think that passing books around and jotting down what about them we liked was also a good idea to give students a taste of each book without overwhelming them.
I also like to help people who don't like to read. I thought this chapter was really great with suggestions and detailed descriptions of fiction and nonfiction books. This chapter was probably my favorite we've read.
